Sometimes referred to as 'Brazil's Worst Highway' or the 'Road of Ghosts', the BR-319 travels just under 900 kilometers south-west from Manaus through the Amazon jungle to Porto Velho. Much of the highway is unsealed, and has a reputation for being a rough and remote track which becomes an impassable quagmire during the wet season.
