Comments to the media by Yvette Cooper, United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, and President of the Security Council for the month of February 2026, and Hala Al-Karib, the regional director of the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, on Sudan. United Kingdom Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Yvette Cooper spoke to reporters before the Council’s meeting. She commented on the report of the UN fact finding mission in Sudan released today. The United Kingdom has led the process to commission the UN fact finding mission into the RSF siege and capture of El Fasher. The UK diplomat said, “today, we'll take this report to the Security Council so the world cannot look away because we need action from across the international community.” She urged, “international criminal investigations and accountability for vile perpetrators and justice for victims.” Cooper said, “we need to extend sanctions. We need international pressure for a humanitarian truce and a ceasefire, and we need an end to the arms flows that are fueling this conflict. And we need the same international energy as we had rightly, around securing a ceasefire in Gaza, we need now that to become the pressure for a ceasefire in Sudan.”
