Fabricating stained glass mosaic

Students often say that they feel they learn the most just from watching me work. So I turned on my camera and filmed 8 minutes of me fabricating one area of the mural. I tried to add music to make it more interesting, but it didn't work out, so it's just real-time, quiet cutting and gluing. The material is stained glass. The "glue" is Laticrete 254 Platinum Plus. I'm attaching to fiberglass mesh over the printed template, which I designed using Procreate with help from my friend and amazing artist Jill Carter. It was printed by Capitol City Press, a local company. As you will see, I don't work like a normal stained glass artist. There's no pattern that gets cut, numbered, and pieced back together. I make it up as I go, though learning to use Procreate has given me the option to create templates that are more detailed. I don't know which glass I'll use ahead of time. Instead, I choose the glass as I work, deciding based on hue, value, texture and how it interacts with the surrounding glass. That's so much more interesting and fun for me as an artist, allowing me to make spontaneous decisions or to switch things up when inspiration hits. I love having that flexibility.
