It is one of the most spectacular true crime stories of the last few decades: On March 30, 1985, the parents of student Elizabeth Haysom were brutally murdered in their home in Virginia. Haysom's friend - the German diplomat's son and student Jens Söring - initially confesses to the crime and is sentenced to two life sentences in front of the cameras. In 2019, after 33 years in prison, Söring was deported from the USA to Germany. He is released without having been acquitted - and to this day claims to be innocent. The ARD Crime Time documentary series tells how the fight for the truth in the Söring case has been a media battle from the start and is far from over.
