Ma’at was extremely important in achieving the Afterlife. According to Ancient Egyptian mythology, after the death of a body, everyone had to pass through the Hall of Judgment, where a person’s heart was weighed on a scale against Ma’at’s feather of truth. That's where the saying "Heart as Light as a Feather" came from. The symbolism is that the heart is NOT full of heavy, burdensome things, but light and free from the weight of transgressions.
