Driving through Krakow's Kazimierz and Podgórze districts in 1979. We'll see how this charming district of Krakow looked towards the end of the 1970s (perhaps even the early 1980s). Most people are probably aware that at the end of the 1970s, Krakow's Kazimierz was not as charming as it is today. In the footage, we'll witness the aforementioned car ride through Kazimierz in Krakow, the Jewish cemetery, and the Monument to the Victims of Fascism in Płaszów. The streets that appear in the recording are: Krakowska, Józefa (where they even drive the wrong way ;-) ), Wąska, Bartosza, Bawół Square, św. Wawrzyńca, Dajwór, and Szeroka. Next, the cameraman (Claude Lanzmann with his team) moves to Podgórze, where they drive through Rękawka Street, reaching Limanowski Street and Lwowska Street, where they observe the remnants of the wall of the Krakow Ghetto. The following scenes depict Lanzmann, Wiener, and Israël Hertzl at the Jewish Cemetery in Krakow's Kazimierz (on Szeroka Street). The final scenes show Lanzmann's conversation with Wiener at the Monument to the Victims of Fascism in Płaszów. This footage was captured during Claude Lanzmann's work on his film 'Shoah'. The source material is owned by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. #Kazimierz #Krakow #PRL
