On Monday 18 July 2022, soldiers from the Australian Army’s 2nd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment – Amphibious (2RAR) conducted helocasting serials near Bellows Air Force Station on the East Coast of O’ahu, Hawaii as part of Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022. Helocasting is an insertion technique where soldiers jump from an aircraft into water. A carefully packaged inflatable small craft F470 Zodiac may also be pushed into the water from the aircraft, which is then inflated in the water and used for onward transport to the soldiers’ next location. United States Marines and Australian Army soldiers also trained dropping a fully inflated F470 Zodiac from the ramp of the low flying helicopter. The 2RAR soldiers’ successful helocasting was conducted from United States Marine Corps CH-53 Sea Stallion and CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters, which was the culmination of 3 weeks of training between the two forces. RIMPAC 22 is the world’s largest maritime exercise and facilitates unique training opportunities between the ADF and partner nations. Want even more videos like this?
