The interview is part of DOCK LANDS PEOPLE project. 'Dock Lands People' is a series of events centred around a photographic essay by Michele Turriani and produced and coordinated by Trinity Art Gallery. The photographs document the Royal Docks' architectural heritage and their intangible history as found in the surviving original communities consisting of people that worked at the docks and spent most of their lives in their immediate proximity. We provide a suitable platform where the voices of docklands' diverse communities can be heard and their presence acknowledged and appreciated. This project in part is geared towards introducing a new community to their own history and an old community to today's history in the making. Our aim is to encourage people of the docks to pause for a moment and consider the wealth and depth of the location where they live and work. We hope this project will promote greater appreciation for the Royal Docks' history and regeneration. We'd like to inspire the local community to consider their active involvement in shaping the future of the docks. _______ Tamsin, duty manager for three years, jokes that open-water swimming is an addiction. She explains that for her, taking that leap of faith into the water acts as an escape from the craziness of city life, giving her a sense of complete freedom. Tamsin agrees that there is a powerful sense of community here, which was reinforced by the swimmers speedy and grateful return after lockdown, which saw the strong swimmers attend coaching, fitness and technique-improving sessions once more.
