Setting off from Honister Slate Mine, we headed up the path to Drum House before taking the C2C path alongside Grey Knotts. Halfway up the path we headed across the grass for the saddle between the two largest Knotts. Very feint, if at all paths. From the summit of Grey Knotts we headed over to the East top just in case we had it wrong that the West Top was the summit. From here we followed the fence line to Brandreth. With cloud covering the Gables we headed instead to Haystacks. We dropped straight down off Brandreth to Moses Trod and followed the path passed Great Round How to meet the Honister to Haystacks path. Passing Black Beck Tarn and Innominate Tarn, we headed up to the busy summit of Haystacks. Dropping off the side of Haystacks we found a grassier path to Innominate Tarn we saved a little time. At Black Beck Tarn we followed a path that saved going over Green Crag. After passing Little Round How we crossed Warnscale Beck and headed up to Dubs Bothy. Here we faces a choice of taking the road or the path through Drum House. Having come up through Drum House we chose the road, this might have been a mistake as we climbed High to the workings before starting to steeply descend back to the Slate Mine.
