M1 MacBook Air Base Model running MacOS26- Still Good even with 8GB of RAM?

Hello hello mom and dad meet world-kinda viewers. We have had the base 2020 M1 MacBook a couple months after it was first introduced. It was used by our son for school, and now it has come back to us as he has moved over to an iPad. We’ve been re-using this consistently now for about 6 months as we’ve taken it with us on airplanes and local travel. The main reason was for the portability. Although, mainly used for browsing the internet, watching YouTube videos, and checking email- there have been about 2 dozen or so videos made with this MacBook Air. No issues, no hiccups, nothing unexpected. The videos are very straightforward with minimal layers and some with little or no color correction. The process overall has been smooth. The bottleneck has not been the 8gb of RAM on this base machine, but it’s been the 256gb of storage. The same can be said for our 2025 M4 MacBook Air 13. The storage can be mitigated using an external drive. That is what we store videos, edit off of, and store the final video in the end. Not ideal as it takes away the portability but very doable. If you can find this computer for sub $400 or even at $300 or less, it’s still very much so usable and worth picking up in 2026. We’ve been using MacOS 26 since it came out and now using 26.2. Again, it’s still fast and fluid. The M1 processor has really held up and held its own. We came from using the previous MacBook Air with Intel Core i3 and a fan. I’m convinced that fan did nothing for that machine, but this is fan-free and quiet. The difference was night and day with battery and user experience.
