Ré, a relatively new Irish band, has released its first CD. Recorded live in Galway's St. Nicholas Collegiate Church in the summer of 2014, the group features five well-known Irish musicians playing traditional Irish music infused with a great deal of sophistication (CD and download available from www.reband.bandcamp.com/releases). The group was forged as the musical team supporting Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre's production "RIAN" (described as contemporary dance meets traditional Irish folk and music from around the world). Band member and Hothouse Flowers frontman Liam Ó Maonlaí, is the musical director and inspiration for RIAN, which has been presented around the world including a performance in New York City as part of Lincoln Center's White Light Festival. Completing his doctorate in psychology, band member and west-Kerry native Cormac Begley has been running "Tunes in the Church" for a number of years at St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Galway (as well as being awarded prestigious national awards for his concertina playing). In addition to being a classical pianist, fiddle player and County Kildare native, Eithne Ní Chatháin also teaches the Irish language. Maitiú Ó Casaide is an award winning uilleann piper from Dublin. Bouzouki player and singer Peter O' Toole is another member of the Hothouse Flowers, which began in Dublin and first recorded under U2's Mother Records label. Band members include: Cormac Begley - bass, baritone, treble, piccolo and miniature concertinas Eithne Ní Chatháin - fiddle and singer Maitiú Ó Casaide - whistle and uilleann pipes Liam Ó Maonlaí - singer, piano, bodhran, harp, whistle, etc. Peter O' Toole - bouzouki and vocals Videographer and Producer: Dean Schieve, Victus Motion, Lakeville, Minnesota, USA (www.victusmotion.com)
