Training Tip Tuesday! Yielding the forequarters under saddle. Watch today as I describe and demonstrate yielding the forequarters under saddle. Many people have difficulty understanding the purpose and technique of teaching their horse a simple forequarter yield, and it's not something I used to teach my horses as a young trainer in my teens. However, now I make a concerted effort to teach many sensitizing buttons on the ground and under saddle. The more buttons, ie. cues that your horse understands and responds to, the safer you and your horse will be under any circumstance. Yielding the forequarters has many uses in horsemanship, one being the beginning of a side pass. If your horse can yield hindquarters and forequarters, your horse can side pass as well. These are building blocks to a side pass. It feels amazing to yield a horse's forequarters (turn on the haunches) under saddle! Learn how to do it and join me in the joy I feel when asking a horse to do it! Until next time, Be Thankful, Live with Purpose, Live with Passion, and Stay Safe in the Saddle! -Luke
