🧮 COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION (CV) : How To Calculate

HOW TO CALCULATE COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION this is done by dividing the standard deviation by sample or population Mean (Mean is also called an average). WHY is it needed? If you are comparing standard deviations and the units of measurements are different or if they are measured on different scales. For example, if the values in one group or condition or participant are in 10s for one sample/participant/group while the scale for the comparators are 100s or 1000s, then comparing the standard deviation is not meaningful. The take home message: comparing the standard deviation OF DIFFERENT DATA SETS IS MEANINGLESS - BUT YOU CAN COMPARE their coefficient of variation (CVs). Also useful for comparing replicates. Bonus: not to be confused with Pearson’s correlation which looks at the relationship between variables. . . . . . // ADWOA I'm Adwoa (Adwoa Biotech), a Biotechnology graduate. I’ve worked in medical research for years and want to be useful to people new to the lab life. This channel takes you through some of the techniques and concepts I've learnt working as a Research Assistant. Hopefully it helps if you're new to the topic/technique. . . . . . This video is about coefficient of variation, comparing standard deviations, measuring deviations in data, coefficient of variation interpretation, coefficient of variation for grouped data, coefficient of variation standard deviation, coefficient of variation meaning, coefficient of variation explained.
