Hello everyone! My name is CF. Today we will have a walking tour at Bugis, which is located in the Central Region of Singapore. We will start the walk from Bugis MRT station (Downtown Line entrance). The station has another East-West Line entrance at the other side. We will first take a walk in the Bugis Junction and Bugis+ shopping malls, then we will explore Bugis Street, a street shopping location. We will then go to the Albert Centre which is a market and food hawker centre. Singapore is still in Phase 2 Heightened Alert, so dining-in at all F&B establishments are not allowed, with only takeaway and delivery allowed. Then we will end the walk at Waterloo Street. Bugis (Kampong Bugis in Malay) is an area in Singapore that covers Bugis Street now located within the Bugis Junction shopping mall. Bugis Street lies in an extensive area which was commonly referred to in the past, by the Chinese-educated community, as Xiao Po (小坡; 'little slope'). The latter stretched all the way from Tanjong Pagar, through Singapore's Chinatown, to Jalan Sultan. Its length was thriving and crammed with merchants and traders, making it one of the most vibrant economic zones of old Singapore. Today, the original Bugis Street is now a cobblestoned, relatively wide avenue sandwiched between the buildings of the Bugis Junction shopping complex.
