Breathing Space has been funded by the Scottish Government's Whole Family Wellbeing Fund to help implement the Promise in Falkirk. It provides a trauma-informed environment for young people and their families to work through difficulties they may be having out of hours. Breathing Space will help to delay or prevent young people from becoming accommodated and allow them to remain with their families in their local community wherever this is safe to do so. This is intended to be a welcoming and comfortable environment for young people to be in while services work together and alongside families, in planning a safe return home, or if this isn't possible, to start planning for alternatives. Breathing Space has been co-designed with young people from Children and Young Peoples Centre for Justice, Inside Out from YOI Polmont and the Falkirk Champs Group. The project creates a safe therapeutic space that children, young people and families can use in a time of crisis to avoid children and young people coming into Local Authority Care while longer-term plans are agreed. This space can also be used as a “place of safety” to avoid young people being held in police stations/social work offices at times of crisis. -- Falkirk Health & Social Care Partnership is one of 31 integration bodies in Scotland, serving a local population of 160,000 across Falkirk’s rural & urban communities.
