The brocade tree is also known as: red brocade, ornamental perilla, brocade or ornamental plant. Scientific name: Coleus blumei Benth. English name: Coleus. Belongs to the botanical family: Lamiaceae - The lily family. The brocade tree is a herbaceous plant, an ornamental plant with leaves of many different colors. Brocade leaf is a herbaceous plant with many branches and large leaves that grow opposite to form a low bush, the height at maturity is about 30-50 cm. The red perilla has ovate leaves with a toothed edge, the upper surface of the leaf is purple with a green margin, or the leaves are purple-red, with a large bright yellow border. The border is uneven, the big and the small places are according to the tooth notch. The petioles are long, thin and dark like leaves. It is these characteristics of leaves that create an amazing diversity of colors: There are groups of red brocade leaves, yellow brocade leaves, green brocade leaves, pink brocade leaves, purple brocade leaves, and mixed colored brocade leaves. Red brocade leaves are often grown by seeds and planted all year round, very suitable for tropical climates. The brocade tree with different colors is very beautiful, suitable for landscaping, building construction, garden bonsai. Before planting, you should note that this is a type of sun-loving - likes to receive sunlight. direct in the morning, limit the afternoon sun. When planting, gently remove the bamboo basket or plastic pot to avoid damaging the growing roots. Then, water immediately after planting. The planting area needs porous soil, rich organic soil. Normally, when growing brocade tree in pots, it will grow slower than planting directly in the ground or garden. If planted in a pot, the pot must have a drainage hole. The brocade tree likes to be moist but not soggy. It quickly rots its stem and leaves when it is waterlogged. However, the plant needs to be watered regularly. Daily or twice-daily watering may be necessary during very hot and windy weather, especially as the damask plant matures and develops large foliage. Drip irrigation is great for plants grown in pots or on ground because it keeps water out of the leaves. Watering is best done early in the morning to give the leaves time to dry before the sun comes up in direct sunlight – scorching the leaves. The leaves are finely hairy and always like to dry at night. Fertilize the brocade tree by dissolving and spraying directly on the base of the plant. NPK is dissolved in water and sprayed on the base of the tree at times when it is necessary to like the bush to quickly create leaves and produce large bushes. Pruning is a movement that makes the bush of brocade leaves grow faster, stimulate leaf growth and become more luxuriant. Usually should be cut in the summer. Using sharp scissors, cut across the stem, leaving about 10-14 cm of the stem from the position of the first branching from the base of the tree. After the plant blooms, it should also be pruned to remove dead flowers, limiting the plant's use of nutrients to feed the seeds. During the seed-growing period, the leaves are not beautiful and the plant loses strength. There are two main types of pests and diseases on the brocade tree, which are mealybugs and fungi. When you see on the leaf axils, the stems appear white hairs fluttering that are mealybugs. This disease spreads quickly on trees, so it needs to be sprayed with insecticides. You can bring plant pathogens to the plant protection drug store to be sold with the right medicine. To prevent plant diseases, you need to regularly check and remove the surrounding leaves and rotten leaves. Carefully collect and destroy leaves and stems that are damaged, wilted, deformed, have black or dark leaves or stems, black spots, or any signs of mold or fuzzy mildew. Prune and remove any leaves or stems showing signs of disease. Isolate or remove some of the bushes that are severely infected or have many indestructible pests.
