Nato a Regensburg (Ratisbona), nell’attuale Baviera, studiò nella città natale con Orlando di Lasso e successivamente a Venezia con Andrea e Giovanni Gabrieli. Divenuto sacerdote, svolse successivamente le funzioni di vicario ed organista nel Duomo di Augsburg (Augusta). Fu autore di varie raccolte di composizioni sacre e con le sue Cantiones Ecclesiaticae introdusse in Germania la pratica del Basso Continuo. Born in Regensburg (Regensburg), in the Bavaria, he studied in his native city with Orlando di Lasso, and then to Venice with Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli. He became a priest, he done successively the functions of vicar and organist at the Cathedral of Augsburg (Augsburg). He was the author of several collections of sacred compositions, and his Cantiones Ecclesiaticae introduced in Germany the practice of the Basso Continuo.
