Unintentional vitreous staining with Trypan Blue can occur when the dye unintentionally enters the vitreous cavity of the eye during a surgical procedure. Trypan Blue is commonly used in ophthalmic surgery to stain the anterior capsule of the lens, aiding in its visualization during cataract surgery. However, in some cases, particularly in complicated cataract surgeries, the dye can inadvertently leak into the vitreous cavity, resulting in a blue discoloration that hinders the surgeon's ability to achieve a clear view during the procedure. This vitreous staining with Trypan Blue can temporarily impair vision (typically for about 7 to 10 days) after the surgery and may have toxic implications for the retina. In this case, we present a situation where vitreous staining with Trypan Blue occurred during an uncomplicated surgery. The patient had a mature cataract and showed no signs of zonulysis or phacodonesis before the surgery. There was no history of trauma or other eye diseases.
