The highest alpine lake in Germany is Schrecksee, located in the Allgäu Alps at an elevation of 1,813 meters (5,981 feet). It’s a stunning spot, known for its turquoise waters and breathtaking mountain scenery. Reaching here 👇 1️⃣ Getting There: • By Car 🚗 : The easiest way is to drive to Hinterstein, a small village near the lake. From Munich, it takes about 2 hours. Follow the A95 motorway towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then take the B23 to Grainau and finally head to Hinterstein. • Public Transport 🚎: You can also take a train to Oberstdorf and then a bus to Hinterstein, but this option is less convenient due to infrequent bus schedules. 2️⃣ Parking 🅿️ : The parking in Allgau cost 10 euro for whole day (Parkplatz “Auf der Höh” ) 3️⃣ Starting the Hike 🥾: • Begin your hike from the parking lot in Hinterstein. Arrive early (around 8 AM) to secure parking, especially on weekends its not easy to find parking if you will be late. The Hike 🚶‍♀️ • The hike to Schrecksee is about 15 km (9.3 miles) round trip and takes 6-8 hours depending on your pace. • The trail is considered medium to difficult due to significant elevation gain (around 1,000 meters). • The first part is steep, leading through forests and meadows, and eventually opens up to stunning views of the lake. 💥Best Time to Visit • Summer (June to September) is ideal for hiking and swimming in the lake. NOTE: 📝  The weather is generally warm, but always check forecasts as conditions can change rapidly in the mountains. • Autumn can also be beautiful, with fewer crowds and stunning fall colors, but be cautious of early snow. Weather Considerations • Summer: Expect temperatures between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).
