Open Streets Cork – A Day of Play and Community at Lapps Quay Cork City came alive on Saturday, May 31, as it hosted the first Open Streets event of the year, transforming Lapps Quay into a vibrant, car-free zone filled with creativity, music, and family-friendly fun. From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the quay—located just across the river from City Hall—welcomed people of all ages to reconnect with the city in a playful and interactive way. The event was a joyful collaboration between Meitheal Mara, Ocean to City, and Let’s Play Cork, promoting a spirit of togetherness, sustainability, and creativity. Live performances filled the air with energy, while children and families engaged in free games, art activities, and hands-on workshops. The setting was enhanced by Cork’s scenic waterfront, creating a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Locals and visitors alike embraced the open space to walk, play, dance, and enjoy the city from a fresh, car-free perspective.
