I will be putting together a magnetic loop antenna piece by piece, starting with home-brewing this variable capacitor. In this video, I talk through some of the considerations I had while assembling this capacitor. This will be the first of few videos about the construction of my mag-loop antenna. Dimensions (measured) plastic end plates - 9.5cm x 6.6cm total length: 12.5cm rectangular plates: 7cm x 5cm with small notch (optional, depending on build) cut in center semi-circular plates: 6cm across bottom, 4cm tall, with 1cm of non-curved sides. Think of it as a 4x1 rectangle + 3cm semicircle. threaded rods: 1/4" - 20, with 1/4" -20 nuts for the middle spacers and a few 1/4" jam nuts at the ends where spacing issues occur. Number of plates: 11 rectangles and 10 semi-circles threaded rod spacing: distance between center of rods attached to the rectangles: 5.5cm vertical distance between rectangle rods and semi-circle rods: 5.5cm Definitely change the dimensions if needed!
