World Bloodless Surgery Day – Celebrating Excellence & Innovation! (Dr Shannon Farmer, DHSc)

Dr Shannon Farmer's keynote address on World Bloodless Surgery Day (WBSD) 2022 traces the history of modern Bloodless Surgery, and explains why WBSD is a celebration of excellence and innovation. Dr Farmer holds an academic appointment at The University of Western Australia Medical School and Division of Surgery and a research appointment in the Department of Haematology at Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia (WA). He co-founded Australia’s first comprehensive multidisciplinary Blood Conservation Program at Fremantle Kaleeya Hospital, WA, in 1990. As a consultant to the WA Department of Health 2007-2013, he co-designed and co-implemented the world’s first health-system-wide PBM Program. Dr Farmer has over 40 peer reviewed publications, a book in three languages, and eight book chapters to his name. He was a founding member of SABM and a founding member and Scientific Associate of the IFPBM.
