Court fines Natasha N5M for contempt of Court, faults Senate on duration of suspension as excessive

Nigeria court found Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan guilty of contempt of court and was fined the sum of N5M. She was also ordered to publish an apology to the court on two national national dailies and on her Facebook page. The judgement is expected to be fulfilled within 7 days from the day of the judgement. The court also opined that the National Assembly has right to discipline its members, hence the suspension; however, the court mentioned that the duration of her suspension is excessive and shall deprive her constituents adequate representation at the senate. It is important to mention that this case was filed prior to her suspension, therefore, there is no prayer requesting for her suspension to be lifted. The court only stated their opinion in respect to her suspension duration and how it will affect her constituents.
