One day the port may need to move. Whether it moves or not isn’t certain, but if the need arises we have to be prepared. That’s why our owner, Auckland Council, has kicked off a project to find a new port location. A project this big will take time. Deciding on a location, getting consent, securing funding and undertaking construction will take decades. Until then, we must make sure you can still get the things you want and need. We’ve been listening. We’ve heard Aucklanders’ desire to protect the harbour and have more public waterfront space. We’ve heard what importers, exporters and shipping lines need to keep the goods flowing and the shops full. In response, we’ve developed a 30-year Master Plan that tries to balance Auckland’s economic, social and environmental needs. It provides certainty about what we need to do to continue delivering for Aucklanders.
