I have filmed friends in it, professional stage actors, musicians, artists, and people I had never met before asking them to film with me. Why Maya Deren? Maya Deren is a filmmaker who inspired me, the first female director that I ever had knowledge of. "I have learned of many more women directors. These films encompass the personal, the unusual, the universal, the derivative, dark sides, and lighter sides of human relationships. They have been filmed without words, and with words in Danish, Cherokee (Tsalagi), English, and Maasai. Although I moved on stylistically all before the series began to be edited in its finality, I honor my own process in working with this art form, for a person who never thought that I would make films, and with no formal schooling in the arts at the time, an act of bravery."
