Following the publication of the first large study focused on Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) carriers, this webinar featured a presentation by Suhag Parikh and Dr. Shan Chandrakasan, moderated by Fabio Candotti, discussing key findings from a self-reported survey of 193 heterozygous WAS carriers, most of whom were mothers of affected individuals. The session reviewed emerging insights into the clinical spectrum and psychosocial burden experienced by carriers, highlighting that many report symptoms and health challenges that have historically been under-recognized. Speakers discussed how these findings help validate patient and family experiences and represent an important step toward improving awareness and care for this population. The discussion also addressed what these results mean for families, including the need for more consistent clinical monitoring and the development of preliminary frameworks for clinical care guidelines for WAS carriers. Additionally, future research directions included plans for larger, more detailed studies to better understand long-term health outcomes. The webinar concluded with a question-and-answer session focused on practical implications for families and the importance of continued research and community engagement to improve care and support for WAS carriers.
