A viral video shows a young woman getting pummeled by a cop during a wild scuffle on a New Jersey beach at the start of the Memorial Day weekend. The 54-second clip captures a chaotic scene of two cops struggling to subdue the woman as a child cries and someone repeatedly shouts, “Stop resisting!” At one point near the start of the recording, one cop punches the woman twice in the head as she’s face down on the sand, then flips her over with his forearm across her neck. She’s later heard screaming, “You’re not allowed to hit me like that! ” and “I didn’t do anything wrong!” A third cop is also shown keeping other beachgoers away from the violence. “I was sleeping on the beach and I woke up to this.. i can’t believe it..” wrote Twitter user @HewittLexy, who posted the video and said it was recorded in Wildwood, N.J. at 4:11 p.m. on Saturday. It had been viewed about 2 million times by late Sunday afternoon. The clip was also posted on Facebook by Emily Weinman of Philadelphia, who identified herself as the woman at the center of the melee. Weinman — whose post has been viewed 77,000 times — wrote that she was at the beach with “my daughter, her father and friend,” and that she had alcohol with her even though she’s underage. Weinman said she was questioned and passed a breath-test administered by the cops, then “asked them don’t they have something better to do,” prompting one cop to respond: “I was gonna let you go but now I’ll write you up.” Weinman said she refused to give the cop her name and was “cautiously” backing away when when “I tripped and fell and the cop tackled me to the ground and smashed my head into the sand.” “honestly, I can say if I took even a sip, then I would’ve gave them my information and called it a day; I’m underage, so I know better,” she wrote. “But this whole situation was handled wrongly and blew out of proportion all because these pigs didn’t do their jobs the way they were TRAINED to do so.” The Wildwood Police Department said no one would be able comment until after the holiday, and calls to the mayor’s office weren’t immediately returned, according to NJ.com, which first reported on the video.
