Robotic head and neck cancer surgery is now live in Leicester following our first transoral robotic surgery yesterday. Head and neck cancer patients join bowel, prostate and other cancer patients in benefiting from improved surgical precision, reduced pain and faster recovery thanks to the new theatre robot. Dr Oladejo Olaleye, Consultant said: “It’s a great day for local patients as they now have access to minimally invasive robotic surgery which helps avoid the need for chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as the associated side effects. Robotic surgery means patients will recover quicker and have improved outcomes. “It’s been a real team effort to make this happen so I’d like to thank our supporting surgeons, nursing, management and theatre colleagues and everybody who has been involved.” The robot was funded thanks to a £1.5million grant from the Samworth Family Foundation.
