The Story of - From India Gate to National War Memorial Every Country dedicates some memorial for the soldiers who have fought and sacrificed their lives for their countries. In Delhi, The All India War Memorial or commonly called India Gate was dedicated to the soldiers who fought for British India Army in France, Mesopotania, Flanders, Afgan Wars and elsewhere. It is said that about 84000 indian soldiers sacrificed their lives fighting for the British Indian Army. The names of about 13000 soldiers are engraved on the wall of India Gate. India Gate was constructed by the British between 1921-1931 during the Pre Independence period. There had been a need to have a memorial for the Indian Soldiers who fought an sacrificed their lives after India became independent in 1947. We fought a number of wars from 1947 to present day. The Indo-Pak wars of 1948, 1965, 1971, Kargil War and Indo-China war of 1962. Our armed forces participated in various operations since the independence of our country. Many soldiers made the supreme sacrifice fighting and laid down their lives. The All India War memorial was inaugurated by our Prime Minister Narender Modi in 2019. It is dedicated to our soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during these wars after the independence of our country.
