My Latest Makes - January 2022

This week I'm sharing my latest makes, two very different dresses created using a hacked Simplicity 8982 bodice. The first dress is a stretch velvet dress in our beautiful John Kaldor Carlotta stretch velvet using the hacked Simplicity 8982 bodice and Simplicity 9123 circle skirt. I give you lots of tips for sewing with velvet including cutting it out on a single layer, making sure the pile is facing in the same direction for all pattern pieces, laying the pattern pieces on the wrong rather than the right side of the fabric, using a walking foot and how to press velvet. The second dress is the same bodice with a self drafted tiered skirt in our pretty ditsy print viscose jersey fabric. I shared an in depth step by step tutorial on our channel, which I have linked below for how to draft and sew the tiered skirt. I've also included some close ups of the pattern pieces to show how I altered the pattern pieces, but also some other testing I've been doing to try and fit my armholes better. It is definitely a process of trial and error and I think I still have more to learn, but I wanted to share that with you so you can see how I go about these things and that it is a process of trial and error.
