IEC Lycan CUAS System

The threat to friendly forces from UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) incursions is growing on a near-daily basis. Whether the asset to be protected is a fixed-site or mobile, IEC Infrared Systems (IEC) developed a system to counter this threat. IEC’s Counter UAS (CUAS) system detects threats using the Ground Aware radar system, an S-band radar specifically designed to detect Class I, II & III targets at ranges beyond 5km. The CUAS system then locks on and optically tracks potential unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) threats, provides real-time video to an operator for threat assessment, and defeats commercial UASs by jamming the navigation signals. The IEC team has branched this into three systems, M8 LYCAN XR, a longer-range (15-20km) version for use at fixed sites. M8 LYCAN DD, (drop-deployable) 9m high tower on ISU-90 for expeditionary uses, range 10-15km and LYCAN LT for short range. All systems have proven UAS disruption technology, which is effective in ranges from 2-5km against Group 1,2, and 3 commercial UASs. The CUAS team’s collective experience leverages IEC’s capabilities in positioners, imaging systems, and system integration, with the radar detection heuristic capabilities with the optical tracking and RF jamming skills, providing a unique system that addresses the complete engagement/kill chain.
