THE HELICON LIFE PROJECT 2012-2016

The imperial eagle, which is considered an endangered species all over the world, is one of Hungary’s outstanding natural values, since two thirds of the European population nest in this country. The imperial eagle is an umbrella species, the alpha predator of steppes. Or rather, it is supposed to be… Something changed in the relation of man and beast around the year 2005. Eagles started to perish at an increasing rate, the primary reason of which was deliberate poisoning. As a reaction to this intensive conflict, an unprecedented collaboration was organised within the Helicon LIFE project. Between 2012 and 2016, environmentalists, biologists, different bodies of law enforcement, zoos, vets, filmmakers and volunteers joined forces to re-establish harmony and ensure the survival of imperial eagles.
