🚴♂️ Gravel Ride: Lucca Loop | First GravelNomads Route in Italy 🇮🇹 This is our very first GravelNomads route and video from Italy. The ride starts in Lucca and was shared by our gravel brother Michele, who knows this terrain like the back of his hand. It is close to home, familiar, and quietly demanding in the best possible way. A route shaped by local knowledge and ridden the way it is meant to be ridden. Lucca is a city that naturally slows you down before you even leave it. Surrounded by historic walls and calm at first glance, it sits right on the edge of more serious terrain. Within just a few kilometers, cafés and cobblestones give way to climbing roads that tilt upward into olive groves and small hillside villages. The transition feels natural and unforced, as if the landscape is gently pulling you away from the city. The loop covers around 70 kilometers and is challenging but very manageable. The climbing comes early and steadily, winding through quiet villages where traffic is sparse and time seems to move more slowly. Olive trees line the slopes, stone houses appear and disappear, and the silence gradually settles in. This is climbing that rewards patience rather than power. As Michele describes it: “A challenging climb through little villages surrounded by olive trees and silence. Then a big part of rocks and gravel comes out. Right there it starts to be fun. The descent is the award you need.” The heart of the route runs through the Monte Serra di Sotto nature reserve. Here, the gravel becomes rougher and more expressive, with rocky sections that demand attention and commitment. This is where the ride truly opens up and shows its character. It feels remote, wild, and far removed from the nearby coast. Geographically, the route sits between Lucca and Pisa, inland but never far from the sea. That balance is present throughout the ride. Mountain air mixed with coastal light. Remote forest stretches followed by wide views back toward the plains. This route is a strong introduction to Italian gravel riding. Honest climbing, expressive surfaces, and a deep sense of place that stays with you long after the ride is over. #gravel #gravelbike #gravelride #italiangravel #lucca #pisa #monteserra #cycling #gravelroutes #graveladventure #gravelcommunity #olivegroves #italycycling #rideitaly #lucca #tuscany #monteserra #graveler #unpaved #rockyroad #cyclinglife #cycling #gravellife #papeschi #bikeride #bikelife #gopro #bikevideo #cyclingvideos 🎥 This route is ridden and filmed by @gravelnomads_com.
