Auckland's Northern Motorway extends from the Auckland Harbour Bridge to Puhio a distance of 41km. The first section of the motorway opened in 1959 at the same time the Harbour Bridge was completed, with many extensions opening as the North Shore expanded northwards. This year a further 18km will open taking the motorway all the way to Warkworth. These extensions have resulted in shorter travel times and much easier grades not to mention the saving in lives in the removal of significant traffic from two lane roads no longer able to cope with increasing traffic volumes. With the motorway extensions southwards it will soon be possible to travel on motorway all the way from Warkworth to Cambridge a distance of 200km. As these are videos traveling north and into the sun I apologise in advance for the video quality and the reflections on the windscreen from the dash which despite putting black felt over the dash still exist to some extent. Finally well done if you manage to sit through all 13 minutes of this video I appreciate its not my usual fare and not for everyone !!
