At one time Shar-Pei dogs made the Guinness Book of World Records for being the rarest dog breed in the world throughout the 60s and 70s. It is said that armor-clad Shar-Pei dogs once served alongside the Chinese military as they set out to conquer and overtake territory from opposing forces. They were also trained to take out any opposing military dogs on the battlefield. But it was more common for these animals wherever they served to protect soldiers from dangerous wildlife indigenous to whatever area they were passing through.
