Flight to Alaska | USA | Sixty and Travelling Flight to Alaska was easily one of the most memorable flights we have ever undertaken. The very name Alaska triggers in mind of something unexpected, something unusual, to justify it being called, The Last Frontier. And the surprises started from the word go. Soon after take off from Pearson International Airport in Toronto, we came across rather hazy, cloudy skyline, so unusual for a country like Canada which is famous (among other things) for its pristine clean air. This haziness was due to raging forest forest in neighbouring Quebec province. After overflying Ontario province and some of the Great Lakes of North America and Winnipeg in Manitoba province, we entered Alberta province. Next to Calgary ( in Alberta), was the world famous Banff National Park spread over a huge area of over 6000 square kms. of mountainous terrain in Canadian Rockies. Just 300 kms away was the even bigger, much much bigger Jasper National Park. It spans over, hold your breath, a mind boggling 11000 square kms. of vast wilderness, majestic peaks, abundant wildlife and stunning natural beauty even in an aerial view. After this, we had a layover of about three hours at Vancouver Airport. Once we took off from Vancouver, the sudden and complete change in landscape and scenario was too obvious to be missed even by a casual observer peeping out of the aircraft window. Snow capped peaks one after the other, huge glaciers, mountainous terrain of Canadian Rockies, icebergs, even the surface of earth just before landing at Anchorage Airport (which looked as if we were on another planet)---- all these presented a surreal picture never seen before anywhere! We felt truly lucky to get to see such pristine stunning natural beauty, for the first ever time in our lives. Surely Alaskan stay is going to be very very promising!
