String Quartet by Marie Jaëll (1846-1925) and selections from String Quartets by Vincent d’Indy (1851-1931) Claude Debussy (1862-1918) Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) For this concert the Ciompi Quartet has curated music of four composers in a panorama of a well-loved musical time and place: the Belle Époque in France. In addition to Debussy and Saint-Saëns, we include Vincent d’Indy, well-known teacher and standard-bearer of French music; and we revive a gorgeous String Quartet of Marie Jaëll, virtuoso pianist and composer, whose brilliance was recognized by her influential peers, such as the above-named gentlemen, but whose name faded during the long years of the 20th century.
