Watch part 2 here:    • ANIMAL RESCUE IN THE AMAZON | Wildlife Vol...   IMPORTANT: Merazonia Wildlife Refuge practices a HANDS-OFF professional approach when it comes to interacting with animals. As such, you will NOT see images/videos of volunteers handling, carrying or hand-feeding any of the animals that have a chance of being released. We do interact with some of the animals that are either too injured or too reliant on humans to be released, or require surrogate parents for their development. This is a reminder that wild animals are not meant to be kept as pets, and can potentially seriously injure anyone who is not equipped to handle them. MERAZONIA is an animal rehabilitation center located in ECUADOR dedicated to helping animals that have fallen victim to deforestation or the illegal pet trade. Working at Merazonia is extremely fulfilling, but definitely not a walk in the park. Volunteers work around 10hrs per day and 5.5-6.5 days per week. Each day is 3-4 rounds of food prep, gathering leaves, and cleaning enclosures. Some days we also work on "projects" like maintaining the refuge and repairing/upgrading the animal enclosures.
