In this episode, we’re back on the Conundrum Desk—our tribute build honoring the Slate Political Gabfest’s 20th anniversary—and we do a mix of UI cleanup, model/tool experimentation, and a pretty significant product pivot. We start by tightening the interface (cleaner controls, fewer “clear” buttons, renaming/cleanup), then run into a classic build-in-public moment: we accidentally apply changes to the wrong place (the Playground file), realize what happened, and course-correct. Then the bigger idea hits: instead of focusing on people typing and submitting their own conundrums, we pivot toward what’s actually fun here—generating conundrums, voting on the best ones, and keeping the experience playful and lightweight. What we do in this episode: More UI cleanup + simplifying controls (dropdown-style selectors, one “clear all,” removing extra sections) A tool/workflow lesson: where changes actually land (and why that matters) A major pivot: remove the “working paper” entry section and center the leaderboard experience Add “Submit” vs “Toss” as the core interaction loop Start wiring Supabase for real storage (including the reality of manual migrations/setup off-camera) Try to make the “toss” feel like a real crumple/throw animation… and realize we still need more polish We end the episode with a working direction we like—and a clear next step: better “toss” visuals + smoother, more believable motion in the next build.
