Artist Bio: Imagine if you will: A cruel afternoon jolts you awake and you stumble out of the house after a long and disappointing night. You wind your way to a local convenience store in search of some sort of product that will make you feel like you’re doing something for yourself. You eke the front door open and you’re startled by a horrible din, the source of which is immediately obvious. There’s a band set up directly in front of the sports drinks, and there’s just no way to access your Pedialyte. It’s not long though before you’ve mostly forgotten your hangover, lost in the careening grooves and hairpin turns that rattle the retail shelving. The set concludes, the guitarist grabs a bottle of chocolate syrup, summarily rips it open, and squirts some into your mouth. Boom, you’re cured. The day before you is bright, open, and ripe with possibility. This particular scene took place at the Rio Market in Austin, Texas, but it could have been anywhere in the world. The band in question was of course Deady, a shapeshifting Louisville punk band dealing in extremes. They are both the greatest and worst band of all time. They are as serious as cancer and also completely kidding. They are a band that does not adhere to the vibe but instead opts to become the vibe. Above all, they are not a band content to be passively consumed. As audience members at their shows have found, if you’re at a Deady show, you’re in the band too and you’re expected to carry your weight. The song’s rapidly shifting time signatures and vocalist Mandy Keathley’s exclamations of “Hot damn! That’s a hell of a plan!” mark a turning point in the band’s sound to something much more hostile and confrontational than their debut EP. The video is a heist narrative in which the band breaks into a mega-corporation called World Server in order to steal back mankind’s data (yes, actually). There are car chases, explosions, poison darts, and swirlies, and true to the band’s mission statement, nothing is left halfway done.
