Salutations to Shiva, to Rudra, to the ancient, omniscient divine. Salutations to the bestower of blessings, the all-pervading radiant Lord. 2. Salutations to the Lord of Time, destroyer of Time, to Rudra whose anger is divine. Salutations to Shiva, to Shankara, remover of all afflictions. 3. You are fierce among beings, their controller, and our refuge. We bow to Shiva, Shara, Shankara — remover of distress. 4. The great creator anointed the Sun as lord of planets, And Soma as lord of herbs and plants. 5. Varuna was made lord of waters, Kubera lord of wealth, Vishnu among the Adityas, Fire among the Vasus. 6. Daksha was made lord of progenitors, Indra among the Maruts, And Prahlāda the foremost among Daityas and Dānavas. 7. Dharma was made lord of Pitṛs, Nirṛti lord of beings that feed on flesh, Rudra lord of animals, Nandi lord of spirits and gaṇas. 8.
