Catholic Morning Prayer – February 23, 2026 Monday of the First Week of Lent Welcome to the Catholic Morning Prayer for February 23, 2026. As we continue our journey through the first week of Lent, the Word of God calls us to a holiness that is lived concretely in love, justice, and mercy. Lent invites us not only to personal conversion, but also to a renewed way of relating to others—especially the poor, the weak, and the forgotten. In the First Reading (Leviticus 19:1–2, 11–18), the Lord commands His people: “Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.” This holiness is not distant or abstract. God defines it through honesty, justice, patience, forgiveness, and love of neighbor. The command “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” stands at the heart of this call. Holiness is revealed as faithful love lived in daily life. In the Gospel (Matthew 25:31–46), Jesus Christ presents the final judgment with striking clarity. The measure is mercy shown to those in need—the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned. Christ identifies Himself with them, declaring: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” The connection between these readings is unmistakable. Leviticus teaches what holiness looks like; the Gospel reveals how seriously God takes it. Love of neighbor is not optional—it is love of Christ Himself. Lent therefore confronts us with a vital question: Is my conversion only interior, or does it transform the way I treat others? Prayer, fasting, and penance find their fulfillment in mercy. Today’s Word reminds us that the path to holiness passes through compassion. We encounter Christ not only in prayer, but also in the faces of those who suffer. 🕊️ Resolution for the Day: Today, I will consciously serve Christ by showing kindness, patience, or generosity to someone in need. Live this day of Lent by loving Christ present in others. 🙏 If this Catholic Morning Prayer has helped you reflect more deeply on mercy and conversion, please like, share, and subscribe to “To Be A Saint”, so that many more may walk this Lenten journey together in prayer.
