It can be a bedsore. Watch how to prevent them. Sister Asha, Nursing Manager, Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, shares important information on preventing bed sores at home. Bed sores, or pressure ulcers, occur when prolonged pressure damages the skin, typically in areas where bones are close to the skin, such as the head, shoulders, hips, spine, ankles, knees, and toes. Risk factors for bed sores include sitting in a wheelchair for long periods, being bedridden, undergoing major surgeries, experiencing urinary or fecal incontinence, and immobility. The stages of bed sores include - Stage 1, where the skin shows superficial discoloration or redness, with the affected area feeling cooler or warmer than the rest of the body and tenderness. In Stage 2, the epidermis is damaged, leading to ulcers or blister formation. Stage 3 involves deeper skin and muscle damage, while Stage 4 results in a deeper wound that affects muscles and reaches down to the bones. To prevent bed sores, Sister Asha recommends keeping the skin clean with soft cloths and avoiding harsh soaps or talcum powder. It’s important to change the position of the person every two hours. Pressure-relieving surfaces like air, gel, or water beds can also help. Staying hydrated and maintaining proper nutrition supports healthy skin. Protecting the skin from moisture by changing diapers and bed sheets is crucial, as wetness can lead to sores. Additionally, protecting the skin from sun exposure, ensuring wrinkle-free beds, and encouraging gentle exercises and massages on sore points can further prevent bed sores. By following these simple yet effective measures, you can ensure the comfort and well-being of your loved ones while preventing the painful complications of bed sores. . . . . #srishankaracancerhospitalandresearchcentre #cancercare #bedsore #prevention #preventionofbedsore #stagesofbedsore #pressureulcers #nurse #doctor #bengaluru #karnataka #india #vlog #viral #trending #foryou #foryoupage . . .
