可以說,這裡是滋養了近代嶺南學術與思想的文化動脈 🔷 Yanyunxi Community: From Qing Salt Authority to Modern Enclave The area's history is anchored in the Liangguang Salt Distribution Commission (commonly "Yanyunsi") established here in the Qing Dynasty. As the supreme government office overseeing salt production, transport, and taxation for Guangdong and Guangxi, its former headquarters, though gone, left the "Salt Transport" name. In the Republican era, it transformed into a high-quality "garden-style residential quarter", attracting officials, merchants, and literati. Architecture from this period features elegant Western-style villas and courtyard houses, creating a serene, refined atmosphere starkly different from the surrounding commercial bustle. Strolling lanes like "Yanyunxi Zhengjie," one encounters grey-brick walls, red-brick pillars, carved railings, and towering old trees whispering tales of past prominence and tranquility. 📚 Shufang Street: The Fountainhead of Lingnan's Book Culture Shufang Street, intimately connected to the community, is a short lane under 200 meters that was the absolute heart of Guangzhou's book publishing and trade from the Ming-Qing period into the Republican era. Dozens of venerable bookshops like "Cuigutang" and "Cangjingtang" once clustered here. They published and sold classical texts and also served as a crucial conduit for "Western Learning Spreading Eastward" due to Guangzhou's port status, circulating early translations of Western science and history books. Lu Xun frequented the street for book hunting during his 1927 stay in Guangzhou. Essentially, it was the cultural artery that nourished modern Lingnan scholarship and thought.
