Its like Metroid but there's an omniverse I made a video on this game a long time ago in 2019 and man, its hard to watch. I used a lot of cheese strats and didn't engage with the bosses as much. Now that the game is over 10 years old, I decided to remake the video into something i can be a little proud of. I wanted to engage with the bosses a little bit more and use different weapons for most of them. As for this game, I still think its really good and I feel like it has held up well. The sprite art and visuals are still good, the gameplay is still good, the music is still one of the best game soundtracks ever and like I like what it adds. While being something similar to the 2D Metroid games, mostly NES and Super Metroid, it's additions make the game stand out. It has multiple different weapon types that can change how you approach enemies and bosses, you get a small drone that can aid in exploration and my favorite part of the game, the ability to glitch/corrupt enemies. That ability alone is something that's executed so well and it makes sense in the game's world. However, if there's one thing that hasnt held up at all and my biggest issue with the game are the bosses. The bosses in this game are super simple, almost to the level of NES Metroid. There are a few fights that I consider good, like Gir-tab, Ukhu and Xedur-Hul, and then theres the fights that are just a static target that shoot projectiles. While there are a few bosses like that in 2D Metroid, theyre at the very least challenging. In here, you can just stand in one spot and shoot them. Hell, there's a boss that does NOTHING, and it's considered a boss for some reason. And then there's the final boss thats one of the most underwhelming final bosses in the genre. Despite that, I still think its a game worth playing. It's pretty good and has held up well compared to current day Metroidvanias. Plus, its one of the few games in the genre that's like Metroid, which is something the genre needs more of I feel.
