Last year, President Biden signed into law the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration through fiscal year 2028. Through the bipartisan negotiations on this bill, several of my Congresswoman Sykes' requests were adopted into the final package that was ultimately signed into law.  Chief among those requests was to increase and expand the Airport Improvement Program, for which the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee appropriated $4 billion for fiscal years 2025 to 2028. This amounts to a $650 million annual increase in funding for the program. The bill also changed the Airport Improvement Program’s apportionment formula to increase funding for small and mid-sized airports, such as the Akron-Canton Airport.  Grants from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) ensure regional airports, like CAK, are able to complete terminal development projects that address aging air infrastructure. In fact, CAK was fortunate enough to receive $3.6 million in AIP funding for Fiscal Year 25, and has used this, and previous grant awards, to complete projects such as gate modernization and expansion, renovations to the foot concourse, ticket wing and visitor’s information center, and even art exhibitions.  Because of investments from the Airport Terminal Program, CAK and other mid-sided airports across the country have made significant improvements to their facilities that are essential to serving their communities and ensuring these regional airports remain a vital asset to the region’s growth and connectivity.
