Scottish singer Quinie releases her third album Forefowk Mind Me, With Upset The Rhythm on May 24th 2025. Col My Love is the second single form the album. Col My Love An arrangement based loosely on the piobaireachd Colla Mo Run. I have translated some Gaelic lyrics into Scots. The song ends with me singing with Harry’s pipes in a section of canntaireachd (pipe melody sung using vocables) inspired by archival recordings of Mary Morrison. About the Video In April 2024 Quinie spent a week with artist Dominique Rivard, filmmaker Lizzie McKenzie, her horse Maisie, and dog Toad. Together they explored the landscapes of Argyll (namely Ford, Kilmartin Glen, Tayvallich and Carsaigs). Along the way they gathered stories, connections, place names, songs, routes, objects, and language. Together with the help of many people, they thought about the interdependent relationship between people, ancestors, animals and place. This research trip informed the album. About the album Forefowk, Mind Me is a conversation between traditions: voice and pipes, accompanied and unaccompanied, DIY and folk. It features a mix of traditional unaccompanied songs, reinterpretations, and original arrangements drawn from Scots, Gaelic, and Irish traditions, alongside toasts, improvisations, and poetic settings. The album was recorded in August 2024 at The Big Shed in Highland Perthshire with support from Creative Scotland. Quinie is accompanied by an ensemble of musicians: Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh (viola), Oliver Pitt (duduk, bouzouki, percussion), Harry Górski-Brown (small pipes, violin), and Stevie Jones (double bass, recording, and mixing).
