A sample course conducted by Dr. Bandy Lee, Dr. James Gilligan, and Dr. James Vrettos, on December 13, 2025, in advance of the Preventing Violence Now institute’s launch of its public courses, starting in January 2026! Instructors: Dr. Bandy Lee is a forensic psychiatrist and violence expert who taught at Yale and Harvard and leads global violence prevention efforts. She has advised the World Health Organization and the United Nations, authored the textbook Violence, and published extensively. She now aims to develop a new curriculum for public education on “One World or None.” Dr. James Gilligan is a world-renowned psychiatrist and leader in violence prevention who transformed prison and juvenile justice systems in the United States and abroad. His reforms eliminated in-custody violence, reduced recidivism, and informed national and international policy through advisory roles with national governments and global institutions. Dr. James Vrettos is a sociologist and activist focused on deviance, violence, and transformative justice. Trained under Richard Cloward, he taught for decades, critiqued punitive crime policies, helped challenge Stop-and-Frisk policing, and continues to advance restorative justice through scholarship, media, and grassroots organizing.
