Bodycam video shows Walbridge Police Officer Michael Ervin being questioned after residents reported concerns that he appeared intoxicated while on duty. According to residents, Ervin was staggering, slurring his speech, and standing in the middle of the road after responding to a call about an open door. Body camera footage captured officers and medics evaluating Ervin’s condition on Aug. 23, 2025. Walbridge Mayor Ed Kolanko told 11 Investigates that Ervin’s blood alcohol level measured .168, more than twice the legal limit to drive. Kolanko confirmed Ervin was fired immediately after the incident and is now facing multiple charges, including: Disorderly conduct Obstructing official business OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) Having a weapon while intoxicated This is not the first time Ervin has been under scrutiny. 11 Investigates previously reported in The Law Enforcement Shuffle series on how officers with troubled records can move between departments. Records show that Ervin resigned from the Toledo Police Department in 2022 while under internal investigation following multiple alcohol-related incidents. Internal affairs files reviewed by 11 Investigates show: Two prior alcohol-related accidents while off duty (2017, 2019). A 2021 incident in which his truck was struck by a train; a blood test recorded his BAC at .32. Sustained internal findings of conduct unbecoming an officer, willful violation, and habitual drunkenness. He resigned from Toledo Police one day before an appeal hearing with then-Chief George Kral. Walbridge Mayor Kolanko told 11 Investigates he was unaware of Ervin’s history with Toledo when the officer was hired in 2023, saying he relied on the department’s background check. He said this case has prompted him to re-evaluate the village’s hiring practices. 📌 About this video This video contains portions of body camera footage released in connection with Ervin’s Aug. 23 call.
