This is the sixth in a series of seven web seminars that focus on the crosscutting concepts found within the Next Generation Science Standards. Presenter Tina Grotzer, from Harvard University, begins the presentation by discussing the definition of key terms such as cause and effect and causal mechanism in relation to NGSS. She asks participants to reflect on their own classroom practices and share feedback about their students’ abilities with this crosscutting concept. Dr. Grotzer provides examples from kindergarten, middle school, and high school, and then wraps up with effective instructional strategies, making deep connections for students using broader causality terms.
